Shortly thereafter I received a text message from a different conversation which notified me with sound, vibration, and pop-up despite only having changed the settings in one conversation. Results: I completed these steps in one conversation, tested it, then received a text message with sound, vibration, and pop-up notification. Solution: Messages app > open any conversation > three dots in top right corner > Notifications > Custom > Sound > Choose tone.Įxplanation: Despite having reset to factory settings, when I opened the custom tone option for a conversation in messages, the default tone appeared to be "1999" which is not a ringtone on my phone. Specific problem: Text messages through Messages and other text messaging apps were received without sound notifications BUT still had pop-up notifications and vibration upon receipt of text messages. It is not rooted.Īpplication: Messages and other text messaging apps from the Play Store. If this doesn't work for you, try my workaround trick until you're able to fix the root of the problem.ĭevice: Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus with Android version 8.0.0 and Samsung Experience Version 9.0. I would like to share a solution that I have not come across anywhere on the internet over the course of 5 months of not having notification sounds when receiving texts.
